Founded in 2016 in London by husband-and-wife duo Léa Dickely and Hung La, Kwaidan Editions is the luxury womenswear label reinterpreting ghosts of the past to present the uncanny and strange present. Having met in 2004 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Antwerp, the couple embarked on separate design stints with the likes of Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Celine, and Alexander McQueen, where they expertly explored textiles and pattern making. Desiring an outlet to express a new and atypical rendering of womenswear - one that is unencumbered by female stereotypes - Dickely and La launched Kwaidan Editions, where they are synthesizing disparate cultural references and unusual materials to craft a new narrative that evokes the supernatural atmosphere of film. Traditional silhouettes are met with vibrant hues and unexpected patterns for a sophisticated, and occasionally crude, presentation of the classics. Latex trenches, mesh shirt dresses, and tailored trousers work in unison to explore the delicate line between opposites and deal with the complexities of being a woman in today’s world.
