  • Needles is an in-house line of Keizo Shimizu’s NEPENTHES, a Japanese umbrella company that also operates Engineered Garments, RANDT, South2 West8, and AIE. Shimizu founded NEPENTHES in 1988 after working for the highly influential Japanese brand VAN and overseeing the store Redwood—the first Japanese shop to import Nike and Air Jordan sneakers—where he worked with a young Daiki Suzuki. NEPENTHES, which Suzuki later joined, initially focused on importing American workwear and boots, but, as American brands began shifting production overseas, Shimizu decided to introduce his own line of American-inspired, Japanese-made goods. Produced entirely in Japan, Needles pulls form a range of influences, from films to musicians to artists, to present an eclectic yet refined range of offerings that include everything from velour track pants to rebuilt military jackets.
