  • Established in 2015 by Swiss designers Cosima Gadient and Christa Bösch, Berlin-based clothing line Ottolinger “aspires to an extreme form of beauty that thrives at the border between individuality and community.” After meeting at The Institute of Fashion Design in Basel, Switzerland, Gadient and Bösch moved to Berlin to start their brand, which takes its name from the label on their neighbor’s doorbell at their first studio. Ottolinger showed its debut collection in London in September 2015 and, by the next season, it was selected to be a part of the VFiles runway show in New York; more recently, the brand has shown at Paris Fashion Week. In its early seasons, Ottolinger received praise for its burnt and frayed denim, but Gadient and Bösch consider their designs more re- than de-constructed. The designers drape their garments by hand, many of which feature laced-up and asymmetrical seams that are just askew enough to force the viewer to engage traditional garment types in new and surprising ways.
