Mats Rombaut and Julian Romer launched Virón as an outlet for their shared passion to create a sustainably manufactured luxury footwear brand. With an extensive combined experience in the industry, the partners began with thorough research into different types of sustainable textiles and manufacturing techniques. Through this research, the brand found its signature material; a synthetic leather created from the food waste of apples and corn. Virón’s faux-leather and recycled textile uppers sit atop a unique recycled rubber sole that can be seen from model to model with little variation. This is in large part due to the brands desire to minimize waist and the destructive nature of trends in the fashion industry. The footwear brand's aesthetic language borrows from countercultural iconography and shapes, further reinforcing its desire to spark change from within.
