  • In 2001, Thom Browne opened a small appointment-only suiting shop in New York City’s West Village, laying the foundation for what would become a career that redefined contemporary tailoring and menswear. Known for his subversive take on the suit using slim, disciplined proportions that emphasize the wearer's form and posture, Browne rocketed into the popular eye challenging the relaxing of dressing standards. Browne’s singular aesthetic has garnered him an abundance of honors, including the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year Award (three times), the GQ Designer of the Year, the FIT Couture Council Award, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award. Browne has also become known for his elaborate shows, dramatically interrogating themes of uniformity and devotion. Browne combines both a unique tailoring aesthetic and a showmanship that reinvigorates the continued iterations of his signature garments. Through these garments, Browne creates a lifestyle for devoted fans centered around queering the classic codes and rules associated with formal wear and suiting. The gray wool suit, pleated skirts, and now-iconic tricolor grosgrain motif have come to define the designer's sartorial world.
