  • Founded in 1952 by entrepreneurs René Ramillon and Andrè Vincent, Moncler takes its name from an abbreviation of Monestier-de-Clermont, the mountain village in Grenoble, France where it was born. In the beginning, Moncler only produced a handful of highly functional items—quilted sleeping bags, a single model of hooded cape, and tents with telescopic structures and an external flysheet—but soon began producing down jackets to protect workers in its small factory town. French mountaineer Lionel Terray saw the potential of these jackets, and the “Moncler pour Lionel Terray” high performance collection was born. In the years since, Moncler has become world renowned for its ultra-warm down jackets—made up of at least 90% goose down—and its industry leading innovation, both through product development and creative partnerships.
