In 1952 French designer Hubert de Givenchy launched his eponymously named luxury house with immediate critical acclaim. Givenchy was praised for its elegance and refinement, and in 1954 became the first high fashion designer to create a luxury ready-to-wear collection. After years of continued couture and ready-to-wear success, Hubert de Givenchy left the house in 1995. After a host of renowned artistic directors including Riccardo Tisci, John Galiano, and Claire Wright Geller, the heritage brand elected designer Matthew M. Williams as the creative director in 2020. Since, Williams has incorporated signature elements of his design language while staying true to the house’s legacy of sophistication and grace. Hints of the designer's industrial and technical design language manifest in metal buckles, graphic patterns, the infusion of sportswear materials, and the house's futuristic sneaker offerings. Paired with tailored separates, elegantly crafted suiting, and timeless leather goods, Williams honors the past and continues to push the brand forward.Â
