Los Angeles-based designer Drew Carry, launched AIREI in 2021. Carry created AIREI’s first collection after studying the complex industrial and social evolution of the cotton industry. The mechanization of garment creation served as the foundation of the brand’s intention in creating pieces that highlight the human touch, while the culture of widespread exploitation informed his use of cotton-alternatives and international textiles. In his first collection Carry utilized Indian Khadi, a hand-loomed textile that further symbolizes the unique artistry at the core of the brand's garment construction. AIREI embraces the imperfection of hand craftsmanship in a fashion true to its name, drawn from a Greek phrase that translates roughly as “to cut away.” Raw edge seams, unstructured tailoring, and unconventional stitching details come together to form a deconstructed aesthetic that is at once a reflection of the care put into creating each garment, and their fragility.
