JW Anderson men’s SS20 standard fit beige, light blue, and white color-blocked cotton plain weave button-up shirt. For his SS20 menswear collection, designer Jonathan Anderson continues to position himself as an industry leader in wearable, yet inventive gender-neutral clothing. Inspired by the billowing shapes of the 1940s, many of the shirts, jackets, and coats in the collection feature cut-away sleeves that hang like wings from the shoulders of garments. Drawing from memories of his teenage sister Chloe shredding t-shirts and threading them with plastic beads, knitwear is braided, patchworked, tassel-laden, or deconstructed along the ribs in ways that allude to both traditional Moroccan fashion and 70s American home décor. And, while these reference points are disparate, all garments highlight Anderson’s ongoing obsession with traditional forms of craftsmanship.
