The brainchild of Eric Elms, former designer and collaborator at Supreme, Nike, Stussy, and Colette, Powers is a graphic-led streetwear label using the interdisciplinary methods of Elms’ art to present a narrative that is in continuous motion. Named after the street on which his studio resides, Powers was born as an accidental project at a time when Elms felt less-than-inspired by the streetwear scene. Wanting to create something that felt rich in personality, Elms used Powers as an avenue for exploration of his own perspective and niche references. A painter, graphic designer, and candlemaker, Elms weaves elements from each project through his practice of visual storytelling, never showing particular favor but always moving the narrative through nuance. Bold graphics, obscure imagery, and kitschy cartoon elements present an aesthetic reminiscent of his time in 90’s New York City, while irony-drenched slogans offer commentary on a culture in the midst of reinvention.
