Founded in 2013 by creative multi-hyphenate Virgil Abloh, Off-White™ became one of the most influential luxury streetwear labels in fashion today. Born in 1980, Abloh grew up in a Ghanaian-American family in Rockford, Illinois, not far from Chicago. After graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Architecture, Abloh worked as an architect for two years before setting his sights on the fashion industry. With seemingly boundless creative energy and talent, Abloh went on to found multiple ventures including the store RSVP Gallery, his first brand PYREX VISION, the art collective and DJ crew #BEENTRILL# and finally Milan-based label Off-White™ in 2013. Building upon his extensive industry and design knowledge, Abloh created a unique aesthetic language with tongue-in-cheek references to advertising, typography, and contemporary fashion culture. In 2015, Off-White was named an LVMH Prize finalist and collaborations with Nike, Ikea, and the Museum of Contemporary Art placed Off-White™ firmly at the forefront of the streetwear zeitgeist. Signature construction-tape-inspired grosgrain straps, sneakers with plastic zip ties, and now iconic quotation marks come together to create self-referential collections that embody Abloh’s unique and irony-laced insight into the consumption of culture and fashion.
