Composed of a collective of artists and designers from around the world, Brain Dead is the Los Angeles-based brand redefining the future of streetwear through community. Founded in 2014 by designer Kyle Ng, the brand takes inspiration from cult-cinema, post-punk aesthetics, and underground youth culture; creating a bold collection of garments, accessories, footwear, and home goods meant to represent an irreverent subversiveness. Brightly colored tees with eye-catching graphics pair with matching sweatpants, while twill trousers and tops offer utility and functionality. Bucket hats, tote bags, and tennis caps work as a canvas for the artist collective, and home goods insulate the Brain Dead lifestyle of approachable, but never dull, objets d’art. Through designing with a collective of artists, Ng is reimagining the role of the designer in streetwear, and streetwear in contemporary culture. With community-building as the brand’s ethos, Brain Dead is revealing the interconnectedness of creative storytelling and activism through both their local relief work and through fostering a global network of bold expression.
