London-based designer Ashley Williams founded her eponymous label in 2013 a year after graduating from The University of Westminster, where her thesis collection received enough media attention that she was outfitting celebrates such as Rihanna and Rita Ora only months later. In February 2013, Williams showed her debut collection with Lulu Kennedy’s incubator Fashion East, which has helped jumpstart the careers of numerous designers, including JW Anderson and Grace Wales Bonner. For SS15, Williams presented her first fully solo show with support from the British Fashion Council’s Newgen initiative and became a member of the coveted Swarovski Collective. While Williams’ collections have gained attention for their pop art-inspired patterns and tongue-in-cheek pop cultural references, her designs often present feminist perspectives and carefully researched cultural intersections in equal measure. Born and raised in the United Arab Emirates before moving to the UK when she was twelve, Williams brings a global perspective to her band that has both set her apart from her peers and garnered her mass appeal.
