Stone Island Marina SS'017
While Stone Island Marina historically cannot be considered a brand or collection on its own, the craftsmanship and design of the pieces themselves is deeply rooted in the history of Stone Island collections since the early stages of the company.
The Stone Island Marina print can be first traced back to the Spring Summer ’984 season, where it appeared on both anoraks and jackets over Stone Island’s iconic Raso Gommato rubberized satin fabric, as well as a graphic motif detail on fleeces and tees. Often, the Marina print has been translated into reflective prints to underline the functional and protective nature of high visibility gear, appearing on the first reflective jackets in the early 90’s.
For the Spring Summer ’017 collection the Stone Island design team explored deep into its archives to reinterpret some of the most important Marina stripe print motifs. Innovative materials, techniques and graphical reinterpretations on the stripe prints from the past create a manifesto representing a blend of modernity and heritage, with the use of laser cutting on the Tank Shield Jacket, pigment prints on lightweight t-shirts and the use of ultra-resistant waterproof PVC material on Ortlieb® Dry bags.
