    • Founded in 1999 by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki as an in-house line of Japanese umbrella company NEPENTHES and based out of New York City, Engineered Garments reinterprets classic American workwear, outdoors, military, and prep styles in unexpected ways. Suzuki first came to the U.S. in 1989 to work as a buyer for a menswear shop in Boston and eventually decided to start his own brand in order to produce designs he coveted but couldn’t find in stores. As its name implies, Engineered Garments excels at manipulating and introducing details that are simultaneously practical and aesthetically pleasing. Suzuki’s talent for reimaging garments led him to be named director of Woolrich Woolen Mills from 2006 to 2010 and won him the CFDA/GQ’s Best New Menswear Designer in America in 2008. In fact, Suzuki’s designs, such as the Bedford Jacket, are so practical and distinctive that they have developed cult followings of their own.
